Lourmarin, Vaucluse’s village

A village set at the foot of the Luberon, it lies peacefully in a setting of green. Pillaging and the plague emptied it in the 14th century, but then, in 1470, the local Seigneur (the lord of the area) arranged for some Swiss families, from the Vaud canton of Switzerland, to come and inhabit it and allow it to thrive once more. Not to be missed: the Renaissance period castle (in two parts, the oldest part dates back to the 15th century), the Romanic style church which has been restored, and the renaissance style façades of many of the town houses.
