Sénanque, Vaucluse’s village

The Cistercian abbey of Sénanque is located in Provence, in the Vaucluse, and is set in the midst of lavender fields, a few kilometres from the beautiful village of Gordes and the ochres of Roussillon. It was founded in 1148 by monks from Vivarais on the Cistercian model, but with some regional adaptations. The month of July is the best month in which to pay it a visit, because of the way in which its beauty is further enhanced still by the flowering and the scents of the lavender fields which surround the Abbey.
